Buying guide & upgrade path

Lithium costs more on day one — and less every year after.

If you’re replacing a lead-acid bank every three or four years, the ten-year math usually favours LFP. Here’s the honest comparison — including who shouldn’t switch yet — then a quote with a same-day callback.

The short version

Higher upfront, longer life, zero maintenance. Right for daily cycling and bigger banks — not always right for small, occasional backup.

The switching wave

Who’s moving from lead-acid to LFP — and who shouldn’t, yet.

As LFP prices fall, the switch makes sense for more businesses each year. But not everyone. The honest split:

Switch now — the math works

You cycle the bank daily — LFP’s cost-per-cycle is a fraction of lead-acid.

You’re replacing lead-acid every 3–4 years and tired of it.

Space is tight or indoors — LFP is compact and fume-free.

You want zero maintenance: no water top-ups, no ventilation fuss.

Wait — lead-acid is still smarter

Your backup is small and you use it only during occasional cuts.

Your current lead-acid bank is healthy and recently bought.

Upfront budget is the hard constraint this cycle — lead-acid buys time.

Compatibility, plainly

“Will it work with my inverter?” — the three cases.

This is the question that stalls most switches. Here it is without the jargon.

Usually works

Lithium-ready inverter

Purpose-built for LFP — correct charge profile and communication with the battery’s BMS. Plug-and-play in most cases; the ideal pairing.

Often works, within limits

Your existing inverter

Many ordinary inverters run LFP fine if the voltage and charging suit it. Some settings may need adjusting; a few won’t cut it. This is what the photo check settles.

Best of both

Hybrid inverter

Manages grid, storage, and solar as one system with clean switchover — the future-proof choice if you’re also thinking about solar later.

On safety

LFP is not the lithium from the headlines.

Lithium iron-phosphate (LFP) is the most thermally stable mainstream lithium chemistry — a different beast from the phone and EV cells behind the scary stories. Paired with a proper battery-management system, it runs cool, vents nothing, and sits safely in a closed indoor cabinet.

What a switch involves

A straightforward swap — and your old bank pays part of the bill.

01

Quick check

Photo of your inverter + your load; we confirm compatibility and size.

02

Fair quote

LFP system priced individually, with your old-bank buy-back credited in.

03

Clean swap

We remove the old bank, install the LFP + BMS, and set the charge profile.

04

Handover

You see it working, know the settings, and we take the old batteries away.

Old lead-acid buy-back

We credit your old bank against the lithium upgrade.

Your existing batteries have scrap and core value. We assess them, set that credit against your LFP system, and handle responsible disposal — so the switch costs less than the sticker suggests.

Common questions

Lithium, answered plainly.

Will lithium work with my existing inverter?+

Sometimes as-is, sometimes not. A lithium-ready or hybrid inverter is ideal; many ordinary inverters can run LFP within limits, and a few need replacing. Send us a photo of your inverter’s label and we’ll tell you in minutes.

Is LFP actually cheaper than lead-acid?+

Not on day one — it costs more upfront. But it lasts 8–12 years versus 3–4 for lead-acid and needs no maintenance, so over ten years the total cost usually lands lower if you cycle daily or run a larger bank.

Who should not switch to lithium yet?+

If your backup is small and infrequent and your current lead-acid bank is healthy, the upfront premium may not pay back. We’ll tell you honestly when lead-acid is still the smarter buy.

Is lithium (LFP) safe indoors?+

LFP is the safest mainstream lithium chemistry — thermally stable, no fumes, and fine in a closed indoor cabinet with a proper BMS.

Do you take my old lead-acid batteries?+

Yes. We value your old bank fairly, credit it against the lithium upgrade, and handle responsible disposal — no separate scrap-dealer hassle.

Do you publish lithium prices?+

No — an LFP system is sized to your load, runtime, and inverter compatibility. Share your setup and we quote individually, usually with a same-day callback.
