What a unit really costs on diesel

Where lithium wins
LFP storage covers the common, shorter cuts silently and cheaply, so the generator starts far less often. Over its life, lithium’s long cycle count spreads its cost across many more units than lead-acid — lowering the effective ₹/kWh for backup.
Where it doesn’t (yet)
For very long, rare outages, a generator is still the right tool — sizing storage to bridge every hour of a multi-hour cut may not pay. The right design uses storage for the routine and keeps the DG as the last resort.
